Don't rave yet. Because it's ritek you can have one batch working on one sort of burner better as on another while the next batch is the other way arround.
Still it shows that it you LG can burn some Ritek G05 quite compatible for plextor 712 as a reader.

True, but I usually don't buy cheap disc on spindles, not even for testing purposes. That ones here, specifically, were Platinum DVD-R in Juwel Cases, so it maybe some B-grade stuff, but not worse than that.

For comparision, here some other drives with the same discs (from the same 5-pack!):

The preceding firmware from LG did only allow 4x write speed on those discs, so maybe LG finally hopes to have Ritek g05 "under control" :p

Ricoh DVD+R DL media could be written better, but could also be far worse

Wrote to two G05s yesterday. The one I did at 8x failed a read-back near the middle of the disk and the one at 4x had astronomical error rates. I'm guessing either I got one horrible batch, or my Lite-On combo drive sucks/is dieing.

Or both :D

Why do you buy bad batches anyway?

What idiot would knowingly buy a bad batch of disks? I got unlucky I guess. I am never buying Ritek again (partly because Taiyo Yuden media is getting pretty cheap)... Now to get a new DVD reader/ripper :-?
