i was always very syspicious of these 'dips'.

it makes absolutely no sense for the motor to slow down when changeing a zone and increasing the speed. it would make the whole process longer, increase wear and tear on the motor mechanism etc. i can see absolutely no benefit at all.

there was a long discussion a long time ago exactly what CD Speed is reporting...not very clear.

Ian' suggestion makes sense.

If you run the Piodata firmware (developed by Pioneer) you get riplock removed and automatic bitsetting on SL/DL +R. I believe Gradius(?) dumped it and released it. Not a bad deal for a DVR-108 under $80.
