I just bought a Plextor DVD- -+RW Drive (716 internal) and I have this problem where sometimes on boot up and on all reboots my computer will be held up at the "Detectioning IDE Devices" (it just stops and sits their) once this problem occurs their are only a few way I have figured out how to work around it. First, if I reboot with the DVD-rom tray out everything works fine. Next, if I reboot and press the pause button before the "Detectioning IDE Devices" and wait a sec then let it continue on everything will works (I mean everything is detected and post contunies on). other then this problem the drive seem to be working fine, is their any reason the drive should be doing this? I have ran every test I can thing of and even reloaded Windows XP and the drive seem to be working fine.

System Hardware:
Epox 8kda3j (Nforce 3 250GB)
AMD 64 3400+ CPU
2 x Sticks Corsair 512mb DDR 3200
SB Audigy XGamer
2 Maxtor Hard Drives (80 & 40)
evga 6800GT Video card
Windows XP SP2

IDE Configation:

Primary Master:
0: Maxtor Hard drive 80GB(Jumbers set to Master)
1:Maxtor Hard drive 40GB(Jumbers set to Slave)

Primary Secondary:
0: Plextor DVD 716 (Jumber Set to Master) (Firmware 1.03 it came with that installed)

P.S I have replaced the cables twice with no effect and changed the jumper to cable select with not effect, I have also unplugged the drive and the problem disappeared.

I have a Supermicro X5DA8 and I'm experiencing the same problem. The only fix I found so far in to go into the BIOS and change the settings from AUTO to CD-ROM, DMA 4. Good luck!!
