Hi all. Trying to get some info on my new install of a 1620 drive. Have some questions:

1) Do I replace one of the LO drives or add the new drive to the existing setup?

2) What software to use?

3) What Media ( Brand Names vs Mfg coatings)?

System is:

Asus P4P800P
2.8G P4
512M PC3200
(3) Maxtor 800G SATA drives
OP'S 2 drives on XP-Pro,1 drive using Linux 10.1
(2) LightOn 52246 CD Burners
Radeon 9200

Any help would be appreciated. Tried CD Freaks for almost 2 weeks without any help. Thanks.

I'd replace the LiteOn, just jumper the same. I'd use the software that came with the drive if it's Nero. Go to Best Buy and get the 50pk of Fuji 8x, DVD+R, that says Made in Japan. It's $20 this week. For DVD+RW, get Verbatim DataLifePlus.

With the addition of the BQ drive, there really is no need to have 2 LO CDR drives...especially since the BQ burns cdr's.

I'd make sure the BQ is the MASTER drive on one of your IDE channels...make sure you set the jumber to "master" (the factory default setting is 'cable select' (cs) ) and connect it to the last (farthest away) connector on your IDE cable (connector should be the one marked "0"). I'd also make sure you drive is set to utilize "DMA", you set it in the control panel under the properties for the BQ drive. Also....don't forget to flash the BQ with the lastest 'b7p9' firmware (from the BQ website) for higher burn speeds and media compatability. I used the 3rd party 'WinDWFlash' flasher tool to simplify it.

I haven't tried out alot of different media but I have yet to burn a coaster with any media. I like the Verbatim DataLife 8x (Sam's Club) , I've had success with both the DVD+R and DVD-R.....prefer the DVD-R for more compatablility with stand alone home DVD players (movies).

Hope this helps....

Use the latest Nero: 6.6.0.6 (http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php)
