Pioneer DVR-109 is out?

Did you guys see this post?
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=123371

It says the Pioneer DVR-109 is available in Hong Kong. Then later down a guy said he bought a DVR-A09XL at Best Buy.

Is it true that the Pioneer DVR-A09XL is available at Best Buy?

If so that was quick. I thought it took awhile to get to the US.

The burn quality looks really awesome.

Is it going to be Z-CLV and not CAV? It shows it burning with Z-CLV at 12x.

Yeasterday night, i was brousing the net on the some of the web stores that we have here in Portugal, and in one particular store i saw Pionner 109, wich is amazing because it usually takes 1 to 2 months to get all the new material.

Something did cross my mind when i was surfing through the page and that was what if this is 108?. Well, i guess it wasn't because of the specs and because they had 108 listed...

So I guess it's out!

Acording to the thread in CDrFreack, there are already some tests made by some Hong Kong people. If you take a close look to the graph, you'll see that they're already using firmware 1.01.

Anothet user on the same thread said it had bough the drive earlier that day and it came with firmware 1.00 and that the drive will lock some burning speeds on the media and that it was doins z-clv (you can also see it from the graph and that looks ugly).

I guess we'll see a firmware upgrade real soon...

It doesn't show much though. Just a disc being written at 12x (using Z-CLV #-o ) and then a writing quality test of a disc that appears to be written at 16x (Z-CLV again #-o ).

Pioneer DVR-109 on sale at www.esbuy.com

The Pioneer DVR-109 is now available at http://www.esbuy.com/pidvcoso1.html for $104.00. I bought the Pioneer DVR-107 awhile back and I don't think I will buy another DVD recorder for quite sometimes. Heck I'm only burning at 4x instead of 8x on the 107 anyways.

Did you see the first post here.

He did some scans with a Benq 1620 with B7T9 firmware. Those scans are awesome.

The scans are also in that link that Ian linked to.

All of those scans are from the Chinese website.

I also looked at the scans and did not believe what I saw!

Is there a possibility not being real?

LOL. There are a couple of other candidates for that honour.

A usually reliable mail-order store in Germany has it marked as 3-5 days, so it should be there soon. You guys in N.A. usually get this stuff earlier anyway. :-?

If you want to risk it, some less reputable dealers have the drive for less than $85 shipped on Pricewatch. Otherwise the retail is $114 here:

I'm tempted, but I know in a week or two the OEM will be down to like $70.

Hello!

I´m a little disappointet, too. 16x Z-CLV again, again one of the slowest and didn´t burn 16x Verbatim at 16x

I hope that a new FW will come soon to improve the speed

That is kind of odd that it used Z-CLV in those screenshot. According to the manual (one of the few places where it specifies the writing method) it uses CAV. Look on page 4:

I knew they were the same. I just posted the link again, to cdfreaks, because all the pictures were in one post. On the Chinese web site there was a picture on page 3 and then page 4. I didn't want anyone to miss the pictures on page 4. I home you understand :)

The Z-CLV is odd. Could you or someone else, get into contact with Pioneer and find out what's going on?

I can't believe the writing quality is so good for just coming out. I think it took a few firmwares for the Pioneer 108d to have good writing quality. Good writing at the beginning is really cool. I know it was only on 2 brands of media. Hopefully it will do good on others.

I think the Ty 8x media was burned at 12x. If so that was a really good scan. Even if somone burned it at 8x, that would be an awesome scan, but it being burned at 12x makes it even better :)

The 16x MCC disc burned at 12x looked good too. I know it's not 16x, but I would be happy with burning at 12x if the write quality was good any day, over a burn at 16x that may not be as good as the 12x burn.

I care about write quality. I think too much emphasis is put on speed. Say, if a burner was the fastest burner, but had terrible write quality, wouldn't it be better to have the slower burner with the better write quality? What do you guys think about this statement?

Thank you isadore2 :)

That's cool that Newegg has the 109 now. Here's a link to it
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... 161&depa=0

What I find odd is Mwave and Newegg only have the black drive. That's odd they didn't have both at the same time. I guess Pioneer figured people wanted the black drives first

I'll wait until I have one before passing judgement. I liked the A08.. but it was not the "best" 16x drive. If the A09 is going to be nothing more than an A08 with faster RW speeds and -R DL support (neither of which we have media for yet).. then I might be a little disappointed.

Ian,

Oops, sorry about that. It did look like I was asking what you thought about the Pioneer Dvr-109. I corrected my message just then.

I meant about this statement I made below.

I care about write quality. I think too much emphasis is put on speed. Say, if a burner was the fastest burner, but had terrible write quality, wouldn't it be better to have the slower burner with the better write quality?
