My 811s is really starting to be hit and miss with +r and I've heard its worse with dash r
. The burns will play and skip a bit or only play back on the 811. I buy my discs at the local stores so its always name brand media. Any sugesstions on a drive that has bitsetting along with good -r writing?

I just bought the Plextor 712A, and it's a nice drive. Check out the reviews here and
at CDFreaks.

Search the forum. Here are some hints:
BenQ 1620
Pioneer DVR-108 (with Piodata firmware)
NEC3500 (with hacked firmware)

109/3520 or wait a few days. Some more burners will be out.
You need two anyway

Does the 3520 support bitsetting? I haven't been following that drive that closely.

I think the hacked FW will which works fine. Wait for the 3530.

I don't think the 109 supports bitsetting for that matter. The Benq is a safe choice.

I haven't heard anything about the new Benq drive, but I haven't been watching it too closely lately (funds went to a new notebook).
Toshiba drives have not been spectacular lately, low priced has been their best selling point. Also, few firmware upgrades.

CDFreaks and HardWarezone are mentioning March release dates for the 1640 and the Lightscribe-enabled 1625.

How many 716´s you have? The 716 with FW 1.03 and 1.04 is one of the better 16x writers

1640? I thought the next drive was rumored to be the 1650? As far as ship dates go, it's still up in the air. When I asked BenQ about it a week or two ago, they said they'll ship when they're ready.
[edit]nm.. the info's coming from OC-Freak so I believe it.

Thanks for all the replys. It amazes me that some of these new drives already have newer models on the way.
