would you mind if i asked what external enclosure are you using with your 4163 ? USB2.0 or FireWire ?
and how well does it work with it?
can you reach 16x burns ?

well I tried it last night with my new 4163b....worked perfectly!!!!

I have a case tht uses both USB 2 and Firewire but I only use firewire...Have not tried the 4163b at 16x....I do have a Benq 1620 and some TYs....16x burning in this case is NO issue.

Awesome case:

paid $89 Canadian

http://computerplug.com/access_portable2.htm (got to this page from www.techcraft.com and searched for part number NME-FR918U2F)

look at the bottom for model NME-FR918U2F

case has a fan.

Don't know how good the USB 2.0 is as most boards I have looked at say Firewire is better the higher you go with speed requirements.

Will try the 4162b later...but as far as Benq is concerned I have no issues at 16x with TY media and this case.

I did it to my 4160B in the case over USB 2.0. No problems.

In my Mapower enclosure, flashing and writing up to 12x works, but 16x doesn't (the exact model doesn't seem to be printed anywhere on it :( )

I haven't found ANY DVD-Rs that will burn at 16x... however Optodisc 16x DVD+Rs, Ritek 16x DVD+Rs, Verbatim 16x DVD+Rs, and Philips 16x DVD+Rs will work at 16x. My CMC 16x DVD+Rs had slow down problems however.

My CMCs didn't have slowdowns, but they had PIsum8 values > 1000 :)

Did you try TY? I have made numerous 16x burns with my benq 1620...tested and played in 4 players fine.

Are you saying that Nero will say burn is 16x but the Benq will not burn at 16x?

or do you mean that the LG will not burn at 16x

the 8x media I have from TY seems perfectly happy to be burned at 16x with the benq

My results with the Plextor 716 on TYG02 @ 16x are also acceptable (though 12x is better). But for LG, you need 16x media

Don't say you didn't tell Nero to display the current write speed :o it does write them at 16x

I meant the LG 4163B... the BenQ DW1620 is MUCH more compatible/capable

I thought so....I will report back later on what my 4163 can do with the TY....I am glad it flashes fine via firewire though.....LG always makes flashing sound like a problem
