Pioneer DVR-109 & NERO6, Corrupt Discs?

WinXP Home Edition (All Windows Updates)
WD 120GB SATA (UDMA 5)(OS)
WD 200GB SATA (UDMA 6)(Backup/Storage)
Lite-On SOHD-167T (UDMA 2)
Pioneer DVR-109 (UDMA 4)

Lite-On DVD Primary Master (IDE 1) , Pioneer DVR-109 Primary Master (IDE 2)
WD 120GB SATA (Silicon Image Port 1) , WD 200GB SATA (Silicon Image Port 2)

My problem is anything burned with nero 6/dvr-109 results in a disc that can only be read in the burner itself. If I try to read it in my DVD-Rom it says disc is corrupt. I burned a movie and it plays fine in my standalone pioneer dvd player and the burner. Now, if i burn the same 2 disc in RecordNow Max 4.5 they play fine and all data can be read in the DVD-Rom. Wierd HUh, maybe someone can figure this out cause im running low on disc.

I'm not sure if i really understood your problem, and you haven't given us enough clues so I'm just guessing a bit.

First of all you should upgrade your burner's firmware to 1.09 that it's the last one. At least until last night, cause in this issue Pioneer and Plextor have been competting in order to see who can release the most firmwares into a brand new drive in the least amount of time.
In this issue I'm believing you know why and how you should upgrade your firmware.

Same reason for Nero. You should have the last uopdate because you're using a brand ne drive and previous versions of Nero might have issues with it.

For what you've said it seems that you're trying to burn a data disc and you're having issues in reading on other dvd-roms. Well, it might be, and because you've used another program and it worked, that you're not closing the session on the disc. Like I said it's a long shoot but try to review Nero settings and if possible to be more precise on the problem you're having.

Good Luck!

I flashed the burner to the latest available (1.09) firmware before I burned the discs. I also made sure Nero was up to date aswell.

1) I burn a data disc in nero, i am absolutely sure it is closed because Finalize DVD is greyed out but checked. I also made sure No Multi-Session is also selected.

2) I also burned a dvd-video using nero. I select my VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS and burn like usually do and it burns the movie.

Both discs burn through without errors whatsoever. Now if i play/read either disc in the dvr-109 they seem to work fine. However once i put them into my dvd-rom, when i got to play/read either disc i get an error window. It says: "Windows cannot read from the disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows." Now if i use recordnow max to burn the exact same data and dvd-video i have no problem reading the discs in the dvd-rom.

Small update. Same data and dvd-video burned to a Sony DVD+RW @ 4x plays fine in pioneer,lite-on and even xbox. This has me quite confused.

Not yet unfortunately. It has been suggested I try DVD+R but I dont have the $$$ and I dont want to get stuck with close to 50 Ritek G04/50 Maxell MXLRG02. Up to know as long as I use Recordnow the discs read in the burner,dvd-rom and xbox (samsung sd605f). :-?

You know, I too had some issues with the Pioneer DVR-A09XL, so I took it back and exchanged it. I had some problems copying a movie using DVD Shrink and I got tired of dealing with them. I burned several movies and the burner would not even play them. I really could not tell what the real issue was, but this I can say, I returned the Pioneer and got the Plextor PX-716A. I reburned the movies and no problems.

Have tryed the discs burnt with nero in different dvd-roms and found that they work in some and not in others. All the drives they wont work in seem to read them in raw file format, where as all the drives that read them read them in udf file format. Have also found that if you open the disc you cant read in your dvd-rom in dvddecrypter then close it it will work fine

A lot of people have been reportings similar problems on the 109/A09 with Nero. It is probably that the 109 is not fully supported by nero and hopefully the next release will resolve it (although mine seems to be fine!)

There is a thread on cdfreaks.com where the only way you can burn compatible DVD-R Xbox backups is to use RecordNow Max with a hacked .dll. Apparently Nero isn't fully compatible with the 109 yet. Owners also say the problem doesn't exist with DVD+R.

Unfortunately thats not my main problem with the situation. Data discs i burn with the DVR-109 arent readable in my Lite-On DVD Rom. I havent seen something like this before.

Edit: I got a hold of a DVD+R and burned a movie with Nero 6.6.0.8 and it works fine in my Lite-On DVD Rom,Xbox,Pioneer Standalone DVD Player.

All issues I had with my DVR-109 & Nero have been resolved with Firmware Revision 1.40. Thanks to CCampbell and Nero's tech support which spent about 2 weeks trying to resolve this. =D> [-o<

Wow, that's quite a jump. I'm guessing that firmware was made for one of Pioneer's OEM's.

Anyone know if this firmware adds support for 8x +RW media? Pioneer told me the next firmware is supposed to add it but I'm at work so I haven't been able to check.

Changelog does say much on the Europe site. Maybe when it appears on the USA/Japan site they will list a full changelog. Im pretty sure I would need a 8x +RW to test, correct? Havent seen any available yet.
