Hi there,
I bought to my son some blanck DVD-R disks but our LG 4040b does not accept those disks. Manufacturer is unknown and Media code is INFODISK-R01.
We have uploaded latest firmware to drive but no help. Does anyone know if there is people who can modify firmware so that drive can read those disks?

Welcome to CDRLabs. Those discs are VERY poor quality, try some better discs, eg. Maxell, Verbatim and TY.

you will probably find that VERY little on the market will work with the LG 4040B now. It does not have very good generic write strategies, and most of the media it COULD burn properly is no longer being made. :o

Very nice information. Should we throw it into the lake and buy new one?

Well, if you can still get RitekG04 in your area you might be ok for awhile...

Hmm well I can say that we in europe we still have access to the followeing 4x media which is all supported by this drive.

TYG01 - Verbatim Pastel
RicohjpnR01 - Multiple versions
YUDEN000T01 - Verbatim Pastel
RitekG04 - Multiple versions
MCC002 - Verbatim/Datasafe But limited !!
OPTODISCR004 - Acrocircle /Samsung
Beall -R/+R 4x media (I'm to lazy to search the code up)- Beall/Samsung (old)
CMC MAG. AE1 (8x media but burns with 4x with latest firmware) - memorex

About very good generic write strategies it does have some good strategies for some media however that still means that LG had to know of the possibility of the code. However in that case it burns at 2x but quality is good.
However don't expect smaller (and at that time less known compannies) to be supported.
Ritek G05 for example should be burnable with ok quality at 2x speed.

Also a good change that a lot of modern drives doesn't support this infodisc media. Infodisc isn't very good supported and there quality isn't very good. Taken also in the account that they currently sell anything they can thanks to financial problems and you see why this isn't a good option even if there really cheap. (Sales prices are arround production costs includeing licenses that is.)

I don't believe the LG 4040B was ever hacked like that.
