LITEON 1653S or PIONEER DVR-109? Please give your opinion!

Hi,

i'm a newy here so go easy on me:)

I have a Sony DRU510A and recently I've been getting alot of "Power Calibration Errors" via Nero when using Ritek 4x DVD-R's (the purple top and bottom). Its the first batch that has gotten me so many errors like that in ages (although its the first time i've bought ones that are non-printable purple ones) Usually its the white printable disks (didnt have any in store)... So anyhow I'm thinking of moving over to a new burner and theres two I'm trying to decide on. The LITEON 1653S and the PIONEER DVR-109.

Which of the two are better? The price difference is only like AUD$20, but I'm wondering long-term if it will be viable. Also any others apart from those two that may be ideal?

My work revolves around multimedia, so I need a fast internal burner that can burn big data (DL inclusive).

Thanks for anyones replies =D>

Pioneer DVR-109 all the way

Although technically I should say wait for a review on the drive... but when only being compared to a LiteON, I have little doubt of what to recommend.

At this point, there are VERY few brands of DVD Burners that I wouldn't recommend over a LiteON :o

Hi!

I have the Pioneer DVR MCC and the LiteOn SOHW 1653S. I bought the Lite for testing the quality of burned DVD´s, not for burning DVD´s with the 1653S.

I heard not good things about the Pioneer 109/A09, but I think it can´t be more worse than a LiteOn (Sony is a LiteOn, too).

Look at this:

If you actually want to make working disks and those are the only choices you have get the Pioneer. The NEC 3500 and the BenQ 1620 also produce excellent disks so if you can find either you might want to check them out also.

The NEC 3500a might be a bit harder to find though... now that the NEC 3520 is available. I've heard some people report that the NEC 3520 is inferior to the 3500a for the moment... but I expect this could change with future firmwares.

going off topic a bit. hoxlund are you having any burning issues with the pioneer 109? i have read at the pioneer fourm that some have problems using different versions of nero to burn or to even get nero to recognize the drive. i'm just curious since i know you're a hardcore dvd burner! :)

I'd chose the pioneer over a sony which is a rebadged liteon. :)
