I have seen DVD media tests (some in the CDRLabs DVD writer tests) on different DVD medias with measurements on pif, pof, pie and poe. What are considered the good or acceptable range/values on these errors and failures?

Actually with 8% max, most recorded dvds are probably not dvds anymore :P

Actually... now that you mention it... that explains a lot of why the Verbatim DVD+R9 disc I burned at 4x wouldn't play past a certain point in my friend's PS2 (which I believe is first Generation). The movie stopped playing at a point after the layer break, but there were no noticable spikes of anything.. but I didn't consider jitter of <12% being a problem, so I'll go back and look at that now.

Plextor PX708A (1.01) at 4x on 4x DVD+R
7.4/7.1/7.2%
max/average/ averag bottom

and how about these TY's.
FUJI DVD-R TYG01 on Pioneer DVR-a05 (1.33)
5.8/5.5/5.5%

Or PRINCO
Pioneer DVDR-a05 (1.33)
6.7/6.3/6.0 %

All results taken from C't 22 20.10.2003 (Didn't had some other older ones arround at the moment and I'm to lazy to dig them up.)

Oh and one other thing. I really have some doubts about first generation and error correction. What was SONY doing ?? I think Actually designing a optical pick-up that freaks on anything out if it's slightly out of the standard.
Yes it's that poor behaving !!
