Does anyone know who makes Verbatim +R or -R 8x 50-disk spindles sold at BestBuy ? They are made in Taiwan.

Is it a safe bet it's MCC and not CMC ?

Looks like a good deal this week: 50-disks for $20, no rebates.

I wonder if next week they will have Fuji-TY at similar sale prices...

Ironically, my 100 pack of Verbatim 8x DVD-R says its made in Taiwan, but they are MCC disks. Got 'em from Amazon a few weeks ago.

I believe they are made by CMC, but with MMC codes on them.

They are either going to be made by CMC, or by Prodisc. If you're lucky, it'll be CMC (yes, that's how low an opinion I have of Prodisc!)

Ian, are these the ones that you used for your Plextor 716 review ?
If that's the case, they look as good as TY (for Plextor 716).

I think I used the DataLifePlus (Made in Singapore) discs for that review.

Don't judge verbatim made by prodisc on other prodisc media with MCC code since there seems to be a difference.

About MCC singapore they probally stopped produceing 8x media.
Don't forget that MCC singapore mostly is for the more dificult stuff(stuff with a higher profit margin ) and for demonstrateing technology so MCC can licens this to third parties like PRODISC,CMC and MBIL..

You can tell by the inner hub serial numbers (they're etched into the plastic). CMC uses serial numbering schemes starting with PAH for +R and MAH for -R. Prodisc uses a scheme that involves two long strings of numbers separated by a "-" for DVD-R or a "+" for DVD+R. You can't tell this instore since the foam rings on top of the top disc obscure the hub area.
