Is the Pioneer A09Xl worth getting right now? Just curious. Are their problems with the drive?

There are problems with every drive. Just depends on your setup more than anything else.
Check out cdfreaks' Pioneer forum for people's experiences. You'll definitely want an 80 wire/40 pin cable.

Does no one own this drive or something? I thought people would have commented on the drive in this thread.
Not many people here are talking about the drive. Cdfreaks is the only place that I have found that talks about the drive.
Is anyone thinking about buying one?

Ive got the A08 and the A09 is not worth the upgrade for me. The A08 is heaps good enough and does all i want it to do flawlessly

yeah, probably because lots of people got the 108 and the 109 isn't worth upgrading to from the 108.

Is there any difference between a09 and 109
Because i saw different firmware in pioneer pages

Yes, here in the US, the 109 is the OEM version. It has the plain looking bezel and lacks the A09's sound reducing technologies. It rips DVD movies at only 5x as well.
Without faster rewritable and DVD-R DL media available, there really isn't that much of a reason to upgrade from the A08 to the A09. Especially since the A09 uses Z-CLV when writing at 16x. Many people (myself included) were expecting CAV.

It seems the 16x Verbatim media isn't supported at 16x yet on this drive, which is unfortunate as MCC03RG20 and MCC004 are probably the most widely available 16x media in the US.

Umm... not for me
Ritek 16x DVD+Rs and Acro Circle 16x DVD-Rs are *MUCH* easier for me to get from the U.S. ..... not to mention much cheaper
I think I actually trust Ritek's 16x DVD+R more then Verbatim's 16x DVD+Rs too... but Acro Circle's are only properly supported on the NEC 3500a, NEC 3520, and the BenQ DW1620
But Pioneer has promised support for them soon supposedly

Tried BTC ? They claime to have added support on the 16x dvd-burner. Now I know it's BTC that's why I say CLAIME !!

The drive could get better with newer firmware. Didn't it take a few new firmwares to get the 107d and 108d to where they are at now? If so, then the future may be good for the 109d.
I have confidence in Pioneer, so I'm sure they will work out all the problems with new firmwares. They have good firmware support.
Didn't people not like the 108d at first, but did later on with the new firmwares?
