Quality of FAKE MEDIA article on cd-rw.org is questionable?

The article shows to have quite some incorrect information.

The question of 3A who allready has reacted back is questionable.
There is a lot of info actually proven 3A's statement that they don't use illegal codes.
For instance.
Why not take a plasmon code (who is the current supplier of 3A production technology) directly from plasmon but actually go all the way to do joint R&D to get a even better product but with a own extra mid. Extra mid means for a small manufacturer even less support. Explain that one ??

But there is more wrong. They put anwell up which shows that they don't know what/who anwell is.
You can't put anwell as fake TY manufacturers since Anwell doesn't make media themselves they only supply technology.
Now I know that 85% of the Hongkong customers who have used anwell in the past have in some way abused some codes but still Anwell
themselves hasn't. produced any fake TY disc.
They didn't even look at anwell site since what you can see is that they only make production equipement not disc's.

MBIL doesn't make any Verbatim DVD media these days. They only made some 4x media. MBIL does make some cd-r's still for verbatim !
Prodisc however is not mentioned. Mitsubishi doesn't produce anything themselves in china.

ANd then we have the fact that Infosmart and other HongKong compannies just as well abuses the +R code of Taiyo Yuden while the title suggests that fake id's are only a problem for -R media. (Was this one sponsored by the +RW Alliance ? )

In other words befor starting to blaime compannies I would have expected a bit more research befor makeing false claims and putting inorrect/incomplete info up.

Oh and one other thing 90% of the stuff we see in Europe seems to come from Infosmart (Hyundai. BUDGET and quite some others )

I forwarded the same info to cdrw.org so let's hope they fix the article.

That is like asking CHIP or ComputerBlöd to burn every single magazine they've released :)

Unfortunately, they (CD-RW.org) seem to put too much faith (like many) into information coming from people who appear to have too little time to do proper research on media manufacturing.

If you completely ignore the companies listed, the article has some merit. It's nice to see someone showing the OTHER side of MID code abuse.

Well the problem is that good sources link back to this article. Because it gets such respons from the good sources. (I was glad that Ian at least did mention 3A's reaction unlike others.) Problem is next that people get minsinformed and next we got some new discussions in which these people say I'm wrong because there info was on much more sites.

People don't forget we all make errors. It's just that we should learn of them and it seems that cd-rw.org are willing to learn.(got a email back.)
Also I know sometimes it's hard to get info and sometimes it's even harder to get the info in such a way so that you can tell it to other people unless you don't care about screweing your sources which in the end means no info at all.

Yes, I'd agree with that. Infosmart in the past have abused Maxell and Anwell MID codes as well, and now they're doing the TY code also. Their discs are all over the place. And I've always found it hard to understand why a reputable company like Hyundai would allow their name to be tarnished by media as poor quality as some of the Infosmart stuff.

Well infosmart pays hyundai for the use of there brand name.
Just as the current KODAK case. (KODAK sold/licensced there name !)

Some reps in Kodak don't even KNOW their name has been licensed out... when I was researching what was going on, I had a couple people tell me the media did NOT exist. Until eventually I got to someone who knew about kmpmedia or whatever their name is who licensed Kodak's name.

Hello!

Question: Are these media real made with faked stampers or did TY sell their old stampers to Anwell and Infosmart?

I'm guessing they'd have to be manufactured stampers not made by Taiyo Yuden, since the serial numbers on the disc do not match any existing system used by Taiyo Yuden.

It isn't that hard to spoof a MID code.

TY doesn't sell there stampers.
2 options.
Stamper was faked which I think is the case however the seriasl say nothing about stamper.
Stamper was stolen befor TY destructed it.
TY destroys there stampers because some parties in the old day liked to picked them up out of the garbage cans. To solve these problems they are no supposed to be destroyed.

It seems that most of my comments were takeing into account in the new article about ritek he corrects most stuff off the past article.
Still I don't like the screw up of my verbatim MBIL information. The original info was the same as put here above.
Ohwell if that's all I can live with that one.

It's good to see them correcting the mistakes, and putting disclaimers about info coming from single unverified sources only. It looks like a huge improvement over what originally was done, and show's they are putting much more effort into their reporting :D

I never read CD-RW.org before the article in question was posted, but I'm starting to think it might be worth the occasional look-see :)

I thnk I included scans of it in my LaCie 16x d2 review, and possibly my BenQ DW1620 review. They'll DEFFINATELY be a part of my LG 4163B review!
