PlexTools Question

Quick question I hope. I downloaded the 2.19 version from Plextor but when I tried to install it says Plextools Professional not found.

Is this standard for Plextools to be an upgrade from the website? I assume I need to go load from the DVD I received with my PX-716a and then upgrade.

Just wondering if anyone knew.

Thanks.

Yep, you need the version on the DVD (or ANY previous version) installed for it to work. Kind of weird they don't make that TOTALLY clear...

I don't think it even works if you just pop a disc with PlexTools in, I think it needs to be fully installed.

And you CAN install Plextools, cancel the reboot, and go straight to the most current update. (I have done that ever since a version I had hosed my system on restart and I had to somehow bypass it while doing a fresh re-install.... but that was years ago.. like 1.05 or something) Then reboot after the update installs.

If you're just doing quality testing, you can also try Alexnoe's own software which is in many ways superior to Plextools (in my own opinion at least!). It's available through a link in his signiture file if you look him up in the memberlist.

Justin42,
Thanks for the confirmation. It did seem kind of strange especially since the program probably will not work on non-Plextor drives.

Dolphinius_rex,
I traded notes with Alexnoe the other day and I am definitely going to try out his work. It looks really good. I had never used a Plextor drive before so I figured I would load up their stuff and get a feel for it.

I have that particular system dedicated to video work and DVD burning so any that is not needed or not useful get's uninstalled.

Thanks for the help.

I just picked up a 716UF... my first Plextor DVD burner after years of swearing by their CD burners (but being scared of their DVD burners). I'm really looking forward to trying out Alexnoe's stuff. (it was bought mainly to be a testing unit, as well as some DAE and such. Oh, and I may burn some DVDs with it, too...)

Plextools is REALLY worth installing, though. It gives you a lot of control over your drive. It's the absolute best software (IMHO) for DAE with a Plextor drive. Plextor is one of the few companies left not afraid to give customers a LOT of controls; I'm sure they deal with a LOT of "what the hell is [option X] in this Plextool software?" but I for one am REALLY glad it's there.
