Hey guys, I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but in their latest flyer, I saw these. These are the cheapest DL discs I have seen yet. A 3 pack for only $19.99

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/prodde ... &langid=EN

The only others I have seen were the Verbatim ones and they were ~$45 for 3!

These prices are in $ CANadian, right ?

I just saw 3 pack of Verbatim DL at Best Buy. I think they used to be $29 (US) just recently. They are $24 now. Not that there is a line waiting to buy them...

yup, these are in Canadian dollars. I think I am going to buy a pack and try them out. I haven't tried a DL burn yet so I will buy one pack just for the hell of it and I won't buy more until they hit the $1-2 a disk mark.

Keep in mind that support for Philips mid dual layer media is slowly getting added by the drive manufacturers.

Dolphinius keep me posted, although the price for those will probably be more than Verbatims if prices in Winnipeg are any indicator. Once again I thank my lucky stars for blankmedia.ca.

Well, basically. Although the order goes through Philips and not CMC. I was bugging my friends at Maxell the other day, asking them about it. First I asked them if it was their own media, and they initially said yes. Then I looked at them, I didn't even SAY anything (this time) and they said... "well, no. No it isn't" I followed up with a few more questions and received a tentative answer that Philips was the OEM. Eventually I was able to drag confirmation that this is indeed the case.

As they left, one rep said to the other "well, it's not like he won't just find out the minute he gets our samples anyways...."

When asked about their Taiwanese made 16x DVD+Rs (the Philips/CMC OEM) they assured me that only a single order was placed with Philips, and the whole line was discontinued due to highly problamatic results. Fuji and Imation however seem to be supplying this media quite readily, and appear to have no intentions of dropping the media for the moment (which isn't surprising, given that Fuji helped MAKE the media!).

Careful...

I received a batch of the Memorex DLs for "testing" here at the Labs...and they are the Ritek media code. The Samsung/Toshiba H552U w/firmware USA03 doesn't support the write strategies needed...and as such, the disks fail when switching to the 2nd Layer.

Anybody know if the BenQ B7P9 FW burns Ritek DVD+R DL media? I burned one using the U9 FW and got the worst quality score I've ever gotten on any type of media.

Funnily enough the disc plays back fine on my LG standalone.
