Hello!

I saw a 100er cakebox with SKC-Media for ca. 27€, DVD-R or DVD+R 4x. Have you experiences with this media?

I had SKC CD-R-media, that media was very good, so maybe the DVD-media, too?

Infosmart makes a lot of SKC code 4x media....

Don't let that necessarily put you off SKC though. Genuine SKC discs are generally of pretty good quality, up to the standard of Ritek/Prodisc/CMC anyway. SKC are a large Korean company who've been around for a very long time and generally have a good reputation.

Well infosmart isn't the only Hongkong companny that uses SKC code.
Infact it makes me have doubts if SKC actually makes something themeselves and just don't licens there codes.

They do manufacture, I have some SKC-branded media which states "Made in Korea" on it, so they must at least have a small factory.

I do get sick of all the HK garbage that floods the market every so often though. Infosmart are actually one of the better ones. At least their media is usable in the main -- Vanguard, Yi Jhan, the various Longten rubbish, all far worse. And that's before we get to the totally anonymous stuff

Well at least the Yi Jhan guys did seem to use there own codes.
Vanguard = garbage allways has been back in the days of CD-r's they were stupide enough to use a atip that didn't match there dye. (So wrong strategy which caused that only a few burners could burn it readable.)

ABout SKC. The do have licenses for production in Korea. So they should manufacture however I see more hongkong stuff with there name on as the made in Korea stuff which I haven't seen for months.

Didn't DST manage a similar trick, using phthalocyanine dye on a disc with a type-1 stamper? The irony was, if you used the discs on a good burner (TEAC) the write quality wasn't too bad (16x media wrote at 24x quite happily).

Vanguard always struck me as beautifully-made rubbish though. The discs had an air of quality about them that made you think you'd bought a good disc, until you tried to read the bloody thing back

The Vanguard DVD-Rs I had wouldn't read past 800Mb regardless of drive or speed. Quite the worst media I've ever come across.

We probally are talking about the same disc's here in the old days Vanguard bought there CD-R stampers from DST with DST atip. Why DST themselves are allready quite crap the stuff that Vanguard made with DST stamper gave new definitions of crap media (Really). Infact even the allready poor reputation of DST got screwed up because of there hongkong deals with compannies like vanguard.
TEAC and Plextor drives were I think the only ones who could burn it ok. At least that are the ones I know that could do it for sure but most other burners had mayor problems.

hehe, I remember those Vanguard CD-Rs too.... that was some pretty crappy stuff. Scored a resounding 0 on the CATS test RJW arranged for me if I am not mistaken

Not CASTS. CD associates CDA-3000 analyzer. Some semi profesional tester. I say semi-profesional because it 's not as advanced as the big Datarius and AUdiodev testers. CATS is better.(gives more data output)
But in the time that there were tools just arriveing for home testers this thing was still something extra and a better as most other stuff.
It is very close to the clover tester currently used by cdrinfo when it comes to what it can do.
Some european magazines have used the CDA-3000 as tester for there media reviews.
