I know DVD+RW disks are supposed to be
used for Data and DVD-RW disks for Video
but has anybody ever done any tests
between -RW and +RW disks for data storage ?

They are both designed for data and video.

Thanks

I was mislead by a search at google

a few webpages hinted that +RW was
better for Data for some reason .

I would say neither are good for long term data storage....

I would say that neither are good for ANY data "storage". Short term backups of replacable data, yes. But never for anything you can't replace.
While the same argument can be made against any optical media, RW is vertainly less safe than R. Use them only as a 3rd or 4th level of backup for critical data. Personally, I only use them as a 5th (believe it or not) level of backup. R is the 4th level.

Ohwell I would trust MCC owns 4x DVD+RW rewritables over quite some recordable media(read princo, Prodisc, Lead Data ) when it comes to longtime storage.

while we are on this topic, would DVD-RAM be a better choice than RW as far as longevity/reliability goes ? I know about 100,000 vs 1,000 burns thing, but I am asking about reliability of just one burn - RAM vs +/-RW.

Let's assume the data was written to RAM without verification function (is that what stand-alone DVD recorders do ?).

I use 2 hard drives to backup and DVD-RAM...every so often a -r

to me -RW +RW is just good for quickie things like DVD Authoring or testing
