Whats so bad about the Pioneer 109?

I currently have the Pioneer 107 and love the drive.

I mainly burn 8X -R discs from Prodisc media code F01. I have had no problems with this combination and the movies I have burnt play flawlessly.

A friend of mine was looking into picking up a DVDRW, and I mentioned to sell him my drive for cheap. So if he does pick up my drive, I would like to replace it witht he 109. But the general consensus on the 109 doesnt seem to be that great.

The 109 appeals to me but I would like to know if in fact it burns with P-CAV for 8-16X or not. Again, I would mainly be using 8X -R from Prodisc for the meantime.

I would also be interested in this drive for the DL capability. What is the DL performance on the 109? including DL performance with future firmware upgrades.

Thanks

you use ProdiscF01 and it works? wow :o

Well, I hope you aren't looking to be looking at your data again in two or three years... those discs are crap!

As for the Pioneer DVR-109, it has some excellent potential, and should be quite effective for dual layer burning, since it will also support DVD-R9 media when it's available. I don't have the drive yet, so I won't make any comments on the burn quality.
