Hi guys....I just tried to back up the movie "RAY" by burning it and I am not having any success. I am using DVD Shrink and Nero 6.3....but it only takes about 30 seconds before shrink brings up an error message....anyone else have this problem with this movie?

Rip with DVDDecryptor, latest version, and it'll work fine.

I just backed this DVD up myself. I used DVDecrypter to rip it to HD. I used CloneDVD2 to remove trailers, previews, foreign languages, ect. Then I used DVD Rebuilder to re-encode it to 4.37 gig. Finally I used Nero to burn it to DVD.

Seems like a lot of work. I used DVD Dycrpter to rip the movie....but when I burned it the movie won't play. I got some type of error that "something wouldn't lock?"........anyway....it was a lot of work....isn't there an easier way?

I read the dvd dycrypter guide.....and it sounds like they were wriiten for anyone but a newbie. I mean who has the time to take a full afternoon to copy one DVD????????????

There has to be a better easier way to get the job done?

It's very simple. Just use Decryptor to rip to an ISO, or file mode.
Then use Shrink to open the ISO or files.

LOL...I wish it was that simple..........I did everything again by the manual on the dvd dycrypter site...and this is the error that Shrink is giving me.

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Programming error Exception occured
The Handle is Invalid"

I am open to any suggestions for help?

BTW....apparently "RAY" is one of the more difficult movies to burn????

BTW....when I closed DVD Shrink....Windows XP brings up its standard error message wanting to send the info back to mother microsoft!

Are you using the latest versions of Decryptor and Shrink?

Out of curiosity, I just ripped Ray directly from DVD with Shrink. Had no problems. I compressed and encoded to HD, the files play just fine.

I used re-author mode, expanded the main movie and used title 1.

I get this error after choosing to reauthor under shrink (and I am using the newest version of shrink as well as dvd dycrypter).

The error says:

"Device IO control(FSCTL_LOCK_Volume) Failed!
Device [2:0:0] NU DVDRW DDW-082 B377 (D:) (ATA)
Unable to lock volume for exclusive access.
Reason: Incorrect function"

with options:

ABORT RETRY IGNORE

Any suggestions?????

Try opening the movie first in any DVD player software.

I chose "Ignore" and the movie Burned successfuly...WOW!!! :o

It took forever but it finally worked!!! :P

Thanks for the help...its appreciated.

I am a bit surprised that someone has come up with an easier product to use.....dvddycrpter works but its not very intuitive to use and the instructions are lacking.

Next time if you have the same problem try using VOB BLANKER to rip the files to your hard drive then use DVD SHRINK.

Some time by re-adjusting the DVD Movie on your drive that will do it. The problem with DVD Decyptor is when rip the movie to your hard disk if the movie is larger that 4.38 GB then you can't burn it with Decryptor, you need to shrink it first to normal DVD size before you burn it , while this is not problem with DVD Shrink.

This comes as news to me, as I have been burning DL discs with Decryptor for some time.

I am not saying you can't burn with Decryptor but since the ripped file by Decryptor from D/L movie has not been shrink to fit 4.38 GB capacity of normal blank DVD, therefore you get a message that this file too large and you need larger capacity disk.

Umm, that's because its not a transcoding tool. Its just a ripper. And it does that very well. It can rip any DVD to ISO or File mode and then burn ISOs back to appropriate media (including burning dual layer ISOs to dual layer media, if your drive supports it).

If you have a dual layer disc that you want to fit on a single layer blank, then you'll need to use a transcoding tool, like DVD Shrink. (DVD Shrink, of course, also can rip DVDs, but its not as good as DVD Decrypter for that purpose.)

You need to use the right tool for the job.

As far as I know:

DVD Shrink: Rip + Encode + Shrink (DVD9 to DVD5)
DVD Decrypter: Rip + Encode only ( no shrink capability).

No.

DVD Decrypter is a ripper and ISO burner only.

Not sure why you think it encodes something. Why would it need to encode something if it can't shrink? Is it going to re-encode the video to make it bigger? :)
