I've just replaced my Sony DRU-500A with a NEC ND-3520A (firmware 1.04). There is a link to a page that has a bunch of interesting tools to install in my 3520A.
Should I install the RPC1 and Rip Lock Patch now before selecting a region for my burner?
Does anyone know how this will affect DVD Decrypter?
There is a link that listed a bunch of patches for the 3520.
If anyone used the Liggy's and Dee's NEC ND-3520 1.U& (Beta7), can you please post your comments?

If I flash my firmware and don't have a zone set, will I still be able to use PowerDVD?
Do I have to use DVD Genie if my fimware is RPC1 to use Power DVD?
If I set my drive to RPC1, is that reversable?

I have an older NEC ND1100a that I flashed with firmware from the Dangerous Brothers' page as well. It worked like a charm. Those guys know what they're doing.

I had already set the region for my drive in XP, flashing it (drive) with the Auto-Resetting firmware made it a Region Free player. If a disc has region encoding, I'm prompted to set the region for the drive. Once you open the disc tray, it's auto reset back to region free again.

It made no difference to DVD Decrypter, other than I am prompted to select a region for the insererted DVD before it will play it.

Just make sure to back up your current firmware (unless the update comes with it).

The whole process is reversable by reflashing the drive with the backed up firmware. I believe the flasher has the switch to back it up in the instructions.

When I did mine, I no longer needed tools like DVD Genie to watch a movie. The drive was region free all by itself.
