Pioneer DVR-A09-J (aka A09XLA) scanning consistency

I quickly tried my A09-J (fw 1.17) using CD DVD Speed Disc Quality test (v. 3.70 and 3.75) to gauge the consistency of scans.

I only used one disc, so the results are not yet very conclusive.

Code: Select all
Test     PIEavg      PIEtot        PIFavg   PIFtot     Score
Scan 1:     334    4 822 287           6    71 068    10
Scan 2:     193    2 721 353           5    54 750    11
Scan 3:     228    3 237 505           5    58 490     2
Scan 4:     256    3 650 227           5    63 299    12

I don't personally see such a huge variance there. Yes, the results can be roughly twice as much, but that seems to happen with Plextor drives as well (as they heat up). Clearly less than I've seen with some LiteOn models (which can give results several orders of magnitude apart).

Scans 1-2 were done with QuietDrive settings in "Quiet" mode and scans 3-4 in "Performance" mode.

In scan 1 the drive was cold (fresh boot up after the machine had been off for 10 hours). For tests 2-4 the drive was heated up with successive Speed Scanning tests.

I've yet to test this thoroughly though, so don't know if it'll become part of my test arsenal or not.

regards,
halcyon

Keep it up Halc!! :)

Like you, I'm not sure where the information is going to take us yet, but I'm sure you'll do an excellent job collecting it, and dissecting it :D

just for the record with TY media I could get allmost such good consistancy on the Pioneer 106D incombination with DVDinfoPRO but that was only with good TY media on the 3 other disc's I tried it went all over the place. (Specially crappy RITEKR01)
What I'm saying is one disc's you can not base it however this result does look promising, because it's allready better as I got with my Pioneer 106D.
So keep up the work since Pioneer might have improved or cdspeed might work better as DVDinfoPro.
As soon as I got the new system I will do some retesting if my Pioneer 106D can give some better output with cdspeed. ( I hope it does !)
