Plextor PX-716A?

This is just a question out of curiousity. I just bought and installed a new 716A and have a question. When you hit the eject button and the tray starts to move out, does it move out pretty fast at first and then slow right at the end of its travel or is it the same speed all the way out? And is its motion about the same when retracting back into the drive?

Like I said, just curious, but want to make sure all is well. The tray sure is quiet when moving!!

Thanks,
Lon

I am experiencing a similar problem with mine. I'm guessing if you say it moves slower towards the end that it is normal. The same happens to mine. Mine is a 716SA (SATA version).

That makes three of us then. My drive has been doing the same thing since I bought it. I wasn't sure if it was a problem or not; I burned 4.12GB of data to a DVD+R disc rated at 16X. It took 9 minutes and 19 seconds using Easy Media Creator 7. Is that good?

what media were you using? that sounds more like 8x.

@coreano

This is normal for Plextor drives. However, download a trial copy of AnyDVD from slysoft.com and you will see rip speeds under 20 minutes!

BTW, download the 1.05 firmware for your drive!

I don,t know if you noticed , that if the tray is left out when your pc is shut down it does not pull in automatically, and when you start up the tray stays out . It must be part of the design.

I was using a Verbatim disc and I'd flashed the firmware to 1.05.

If your ripping is taking longer than 15-20 minutes you should enable SpeedRead in the PlexTools software.

40 Mins !!!! :o

Should take about 10~15 mins to rip (7 GB) and 6 mins to burn (16X).

5 Mins for a 4 Gb Disk ripping.

Since the Plextor 708, my average rip speeds were always around 40+ minutes for dual layer discs. Even with SpeedRead enabled, my rip times didn't decrease much. But with AnyDVD's Speed Control enabled, my rip speeds are now under 17 minutes!

I am not sure why it is taking you that long to rip a DVD.

I can rip a DL DVD in under 15 mins easy, usually under 12 mins.

Single layer DVD's in 5 mins.

There's a new firmware for plextor, v106 that seems to fix all the CD bugs that were reported.

Oh Man, i saw the plextor 716 at costco canada today for 149.00 and i was debating if I should get one then decided to buy next week. But i missed a big opportunity I came home and browsing thru plextor website and found plextor was offering 30.00 rebate for the same model and it expires march 31st today. Little late. Since you guys are so much into plextor, does anyone know how often plextor gives rebate? I hope they do again soon
