Ok I've had my new Memorex Dual Layer recorder (actually the NEC 3520 drive with Memorex's name on it - go Memorex!) for about 2-3 weeks now. I'm loving this thing as I'm burning higher quality CD's and backin up my Pixar movies before the little ones do what little ones do with them. I'm looking to had a second drive in my Antec Server case for some more flexibility.

I'm looking at the following:

Plextor 716a
Sony DRU720a
Pioneer A09xl

Which would you guys recommend. I got a feeling Plextor is the answer but I've heard they had problems with the drive judge by a previous review on these forums.

I'm going to ask the obvious question. Why do you need another DVD writer? The NEC/Memorex already does a great job writing DVD's.

If I were you, I'd pick up a DVD-ROM or combo drive to go along with it since the NEC/Memorex doesn't do so hot when ripping DVD movies.

So when one drive is ripping, the other is burning.

The PLEX and AOPEN are very fast readers. Plex is the fastest in my stable.
Ask someone about the pio 109. Can be had for $63

Hello!

The Plex 716 would be my first choice here, then the Pioneer 09.

The Plex have great features like quality-scanning, Gigarec etc.

The Pioneers have good DVD-quality in read and write, biut the CD-section is not real good
