I was looking at a DVD burner at Costco the other night and I noticed that they listed the minimum system requirements as at least a 700 mhz Pentium III. What do you all think, can you copy and/or burn DVDs with a lessor system? My own pc is marginally better than that (Pentium III 550E o/c to 733 mhz). I can always use the wifes new machine which has a burner but I was just wondering if my old box could handle the load.

The CPU should be ok but there are other things to consider:
1.You should be using Win98SE or newer.
2.You should have at least 128MB of RAM(256MB for video).
3.Your HD should be 7200RPM and have DMA enabled.
4.You might be limited to 4x writing.
Before you buy make sure to install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your motherboard(go to your manufacturers website).

I'm running XP Pro/SP2

384MB

Both my hard drives are 7200 rpm w/DMA enabled.

4.You might be limited to 4x writing.

Its an obsolete board that is no longer supported but I've got the latest BIOS they released.

So, it sounds as if I could do it even if somewhat limited in speed. Thanks. I'll keep the info in mind. Of course, what I really need to do is upgrade the computer. All it will take is a new mobo, new processor, new memory, and probably a new power supply. But hey, I'd get to keep everything else! :-?
