NEC warns update from original 1.04...

but I think with BINFLASH you can.

For sure I did a BIN-dump of my 1.04 with BINFLASHwinGUI (please READ the instructions !)

Now all I can do is wait and hope they do the same for the 3500A. :(

unfortunately 3.04 has no bitsetting. :(

it has dvd+rw bitsetting right? or am i thinking about my dvr-108?

you shouldn't be that concerned about bitsetting, just use dvd- media and you'll be fine

nope, bitsetting is still not supported for single layer +R and +RW with 3.04, but it does autobitsetting for DL+R.

NEC's official firmware update seems to be the same as I-ODATA's v3.04 firmware revision.

Just got the 3520A OEM drive from Newegg for someone:
http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app/Vi ... 039&depa=1

...and I'm confused about the firmware. I tried 3.04, but I read something in the text file that says only works with retail version of the drive. Is there a OEM-to-retail flasher? I believe presently the drive is at 1.04. Any chance I can get it to 3.04? What do I need to do next? Thank you.

I've also read this:

and the Neteherlands site link and am still confused. :-?

If your drive is recognized as NEC, you can flash it without worries. Just follow the steps written in the readme file (make sure you flash in Safe Mode!)...

Flash it without worries using what firmware? The official 3.04 requires a retail version of the drive.

I used the Liggy and Dees original 3.04 version to flash and had no problems. I figured this was a good standard flash without any crazy ripping/burning speed increases that might freak out a noob. They should be happy with this firmware.

I flashed mine (v1.04), which is OEM, with the official 3.04.

Well, I have an Asus E616P3 OEM at home that didn't work with retail flasher, so I didn't even try the NEC. I guess I should have tried the official 3.04 first anyway, but no one told me to this whole time at this forum and the Firmware Page forum. I'll remember in the future to try this first though. Thank you.

When you're not sure, just check the Device Manager or some other info tool for detailed info about the drive. If it says it's NEC, then it's the same as the retail. The original firmware also tells you what brand you have. Besides there's a label on the drive that specifically describes it...
