Hi, just wondering if you have any experience with these guys?

http://www.canadacomputers.com/cc/index ... cid=719.88

I know you're in Canada and are our National media expert ;) So maybe you might know something about these discs. That price seems too good to be true, and in most cases, they are.

Well, just called the Toronto store and the guy I spoke with said they are genuine Taiyo Yuden's made by Taiyo Yuden. He didn't seem to understand what I was saying when I told him there are fakes that use the Taiyo Yuden media code. He wasn't the most English-fluent person i've ever spoken with.. Thus, i'm still not sure what these disks really are.

So far everyone I know who's bought Taiyo Yuden from CanadaComputer's has received a downgrade Generic Optodisc 8x DVD-R with TYG02 code.

The only real safe places to buy Taiyo Yuden retail in Canada are blankmedia.ca and NCIX.com.

Thanks. I'll need to buy from Blankmedia someday. Do you know if their shipping prices are better than NCIX?

I live 5 min away from one of their flagship store (PACIFIC MALL) I am gonna check it out tomorrow. How do i tell the difference, if they are TY or fake? I am even willing to purchase it to try. Would the DVD info pro identify it?

You can buy DVD media from blankmedia.ca by the piece. I purchases one or two pieces of most of the media they carry and tried them all. Interestinly, their Matrix DVD-R 8X media was also TYG02. They're located in Kitchener, not too far from where I am. But I don't think they have a B&M store. You can purchase from them online only.

Probably a little better, but I'm not sure. I don't really order from either of them

Read the serial numbers, it's the only way. If the serial number starts with OL then it's Optodisc. If it starts with GG then it's Taiyo Yuden.

You can do local pickups from blankmedia.ca, although it's from their house.

Regarding Matrix 8x DVD-Rs, they are made by Optodisc.

Run Run Run

I have plenty o'experience with Canada Computers.

Great place to buy OEM parts for very small margins over wholesale (1-4%)..not a great place for tech support or product knowledge.

I can GUARANTEE the "TY" discs are the same at every outfit like CC in the GTA...they are fakes. Back away...slowly. Don't make any sudden movements...lol

Do what DD says...call Blankmedia...Tom and his crew will look after you. Excellent Canadian owned company.

Didn't the Pacific Mall get raided late last week?
Mostly for the pirated DVD's and software was my understanding...

I have no idea if CC was entered/involved though.

Oh yes, Canada computer is known for pirated softwares and grey market goods. I heard most of the softwares stolen from Staples and futureshops are sold there as well. I think they got busted for selling stolen quicktax softwares from staples 3 years ago.
