Newegg.com is currently selling this model, retail with 25 cd..25 16x dvd-r box for 62.99 with free shipping. Just got one for 67.36 delivered. Can't wait to test this baby out.

It's a good drive! Just don't use Prodisc media on it :wink:

Also, this topic would have been better placed in the Hot Deals portion of this forum...

Newegg had this drive (OEM) for $43.99 last friday (May6) with free shipping.

I called BenQ and was told if you patched the 1620 with the firmware to make it a Pro, if anything happens the warranty is voided. So to play it safe it waited for the retail Pro version. Just dont want to get screwed when and if the drive dies.....

For reals? Ah man dont tell me i wasted cash on retail when i coulda gotten and OEM and the dled the firmare to make it Pro. Ah well the 25 16x dvd-r's are worth about 10 bucks anyways. So i payed 57 bucks... :-?

To clarify, if you hack the firmware from the OEM to the Retail version, the warrenty is void. However, that doesn't mean you can't use the latest OEM firmware which is equivilant of the latest retail firmware (G7V9 and B7V9 respectively). Some OEM drives even COME with the retail firmware on them!

I patched my oem 1620...works perfectly...saved about $30

These things are so cheap if they break who cares ?
