NEC 3520A Burn Problems, Help Please

I'm having problems burning Verbatim 16X DVD-R media, I get a SCSI error within the first 5 sec after clicking BURN in Nero 6.3. This happens whether I set the burn speed to 8X, 12X or 16X. Tried a second blank, no help. A few weeks ago, I successfully burned a half-dozen of these same 16X blanks from the same pack of 25.

The same 3520A burns AVB 8X DVD+R media @ 8X with no problem. I burned 1 before the -R and another just after having the -R problem. It burns 4.2GB of data in just under 10 minutes @ 8X.

I'm running the 3520A in a USB 2.0 enclosure off my laptop. It was purchased in Feb/Mar time frame from NewEgg. Because I have no plan to burn DL media, I've not attempted a firmware upgrade.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Update your firmware if it is not current.

Is there a foolproof way to determine the current firmware version, given my USB connection?

Almost any software can tell you your firmware version.
www.cdspeed2000.com
http://dvdidentifier.cdfreaks.com/
etc.

Thanks,
I updated from 1.04 to 3.04 to no avail. Still get "SCSI command aborted" durning the first few seconds making the Lead-in.

So as it stands, I can burn the 8X +R's but not the Verbatim 16X -R's, which I had successfully burned before. #-o

Hope someone has an idea.

Just noticed this...
UPDATE your Nero!
6.6.0.13 is out atm...

Progress, Sort of . . .

Well if a different failure mode is progress, then progress. But, since I still fail to burn the Verbatim -R media, the "progress" doesn't feel very good.

I upgraded Nero to 6.6.0.13, and instead of the "SCSI command aborted" failure, I now get a reset failure. This too happens during the lead in phase.

What the heck is going on?!?!? #-o
