Prodisc 4.9GB DVD-R Media

No.. not a typo. According to PC World, Prodisc will be unveiling 4.9GB discs at Computex.

The catch is that its supported by only 15 drives:

BenQ's DW1620
LG Electronics' GSA-4082B and GSA4120B
Lite-On Technology's SOHW-1613S

Optorite's DD0401
Pioneer's DVR-107D and DVR108
Plextor's PX-708A and PX-712A
Ricoh's MP-5308D
Samsung Electronics' SH-W08A
Teac's DV-W58D
Toshiba's SD-R5272

no support from the DVR-109? not too surprising given the lack of effort on Pioneer's part lately :cry:

The list seems to have a lot of older drive models listed. I wonder if some of the newer drives from say Lite-On, Plextor and Pioneer would work.

Very interesting.

The most of this drives canĀ“t overburn so the bigger place must be written in the media-code

I think they (ProDisc) should concentrate more on quality rather than non-standard track pitch which is going to get even more players into trouble with tracking offset errors and increased jitter.

A gimmick of an idea, imo :)
