Problems: BenQ DW1620 with fake TY discs

Hey guys,
This is my problem, maybe you guys can figure if it's the DVDs or the burner.

I just bought a DW1620 OEM. Now, I also had some fake TY discs from before. When I used disc interpreter it told me that they're TYs but I highly doubt it.
Now when I burned these DVDs, my Philips DVP642 burner will not read them, but the DW1620 would read them with no problems. The firmware that I'm using is G7V9. When burned with my Pioneer 104, the discs are read flawlessly by my DVP642. I tried burning the media at 8X, 4X, and 2.4X, and none of them worked. Also when I checked for errors the disc had none.

What can I conclude from this? Is it the drive or the discs?
Any help will be much appreciated.

what are the serial numbers printed on the disc? (not the MID)

This is what is written on the inside of the disc: OL25MH0406250315C, thus no GG.

that's made by Optodisc... most likely it's a downgrade Optodisc. What you need is a Pioneer DVR-109 to burn those (with firmware 1.50). Not worth more then $0.32 CAD at most.

Try using B7S9 and burn them at 4x.

Alternatively, you can hack the firmware, and switch the firmware's write strategy's for TYG02 with OPTODISCR008.

I'm a big newb, so you should be more specific for me to understand. I don't care much about them, because I just bought 200 real TYs from NCIX, all I want is to know if the drive is faulty.

Also whenever I want to try to upgrade my firmware, it tells me that it won't want to.

Looks like you have the G7x9 series for firmwares (the OEM version), so either use the OEM firmwares from the BenQ site, or hack the retail firmware.

BenQ hacks can be found here:
