Considering TEAC hasn't designed a drive themselves for some time, I was trying to figure out who the true manufacturer is. Any thoughts?

At first I thought it might be a BenQ DQ60 but the CD reading and writing speeds are too slow. The DQ60 doesn't write to DVD-R DL media at 8x either.

Maybe a Pioneer or an LG?

We have to consider who are supporters of the DVD-RAM format as well...

Pioneer would not surprise me. TEAC has used their drive designs many times in the past.

I actually think it can be a TEAC design because most drives with an E in the model name have been TEAC's own design AFAIK (DV-W50E is an exception though). This is also the impression I get from reading the auto-translation of AV Watch article.

This is the first TEAC drive I've gotten excited about in some time. Watch.. TEAC won't bring the thing to the US.

I wote to Teac Germany and they say that that drive will be maybe avaible at end of august.

The specs sound kinda like a Pioneer 110, they are sposed to start using BenQ but I suppose they can use whoever they want. I think there are others about to come out with similar specs too.

Teac´s names for FW was similar to the original-FW, and 1.07 can be a Pioneer, because Benq uses mostly letters not numbers.

Hmm.. looks better with the 1.07FW, but the MCC004 scores were quite crappy.ALso, what's up with the insane jitter levels on the TYG02 discs? Benq 1640/1620 seem to be much better with them.

The writing-quality should be improved.

Interesting thing is that DVD-RAM is written @5x, so it don´t verify the data while writing.

This publication in the "Taiwan Economic News" gives some indication
that maybe also the TEAC DV-W516E burner is manufactured by BenQ:

Looks like Liteon will bring soon Super-Multi-drives with DVD-RAM. But have Mediatek chipsets for writing DVD-RAM?

I don´t understand why Matsushita is No. 4 in the global ranking. In Germany/Europe Matsushita/Panasonic-drives really hard to get; maybe Panasonic sells so much DVD-Recorder?

I read in the global-ranking only 5 manufacturers?

Panasonic/Matushita has a very big share of the japanese market.
Also there recorder all over the world sales are high.
