BenQ External EW162I or Plextor PX-716UF??

im deciding between these 2 drives, please help me choose

there is a significant price diff but i am fed up with my crappy HI VAL burner which already made 6 coasters in one day :cry:

I have had both.

:( The EW162I is only USB2, UltraDMA-2, and will only burn to 12X.

:D The 716UF is both USB/Firewire, UltraDMA-4, and will burn at 16X on Firewire.

I have had both.

:( The EW162I is only USB2, UltraDMA-2, and will only burn to 12X.

:D The 716UF is both USB/Firewire, UltraDMA-4, and will burn at 16X on Firewire.


PX-716UF will burn at 16X on USB2.0 as well, depending on the USB chipset the port you connect it to uses. I know on my PC I can get 16x when connected to the USB ports of the ICH4 southbridge of my motherboard, but not when connected to my add-in PCI USB2.0 card which uses an NEC chipset.
