Hi,

Unfortunately I do not have all the choices for DVD-RW to be available in our local market. What do you think is the best out of these:

1. BenQ 16x 4x Max DVD±RW Dual Layer
2. NU DDW081 8x 4x DVD±RW Drive
3. Lite-On LDW-451s 4x (8x4) DVD±RW Drive
4. Lite-On SOHW-812S 8x8 DVD±RW Drive
5. Lite-On SOHW-1673S 16x Dual Layer DVD±RW Drive
6. LG GSA-4163B 16x Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
7. Samsung TS-H552B 16x Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
8. ASUS DRW-1608P Double Layer DVD±RW
9. Sony DRU-710UL 16x Double Layer DVD±RW Drive

I always read NEC is the best but I do not see NEC in our local market...

Of your choices...two stand out...

1. Benq DW1640 or DW1620
2. LG GSA-4163B

The first Benq is the newer model that burns DVD+R DL at 8X, where the 1620 does DL at 4X...LG makes a decent burner...both brands give excellent burn results

ASUS DRW-1608P is actually a Pioneer (109 i think), good drive.

My choice:

1. Asus 1608 (Pioneer 109-OEM)
2. LG 4163

The Benq my be a 1620. If you can get a 1640, that could be my No. 2 at the moment.

And stay away from this old Nutech and bad Samsung

they're multi format burners, work well with both DVD-R and DVD+R.

Depends to your needs and piorities, each drive has Pros & Cons as you can see in CDRLabs reviwes. If overspeed of burning the media above the rating is your choice go for NEC3500 (If you can find one), if high ripping speed is your need then go for BenQ 1640.

The Asus/Pioneer are a little biased to DVD-R (like Benq is biased to DVD+R), but works very well with DVD+R, too.

I like LG-drives, but if I want again a LG I´ll be wait for the upcoming 4168/4168

Pioneer/Asus

Looks like those two drives are better at 16x-writing
