Dear friends
i have made two disc quality tests for maxell dvd+r media by using same software, same drive but the read speeds were max and 5x.

at max read speed i have got this result

at 5x read speed i have got this result

may i ask you which read speed should i choose?

i am really confused my friends really.
and what about the percentage of quality, one single peak makes a big decrease in that quality of percentage?is percentage realiable?
have i got a good or bad media?

at max of 32 and 35 for p1 errors this is actually pretty good

i wouldn't worry with the results

were both disks burned at same speeds?

and since this is still a very new drive, there hasn't been the firmware tweaks done on it yet

so again with more firmware updates coming in for the future its only going to get better with NEC

Its hard to make a recommendation by looking at only those two tests, but the results are very close at both speeds. If you can get a way with scanning at maximum speed and get similar results.. go for it. You'll save yourself some time.

i burned the media at 4x speed and in these two tests i used the same media one difference is about reading speed one of the 5x and the other max.
in the second pic as you see there is a big single peak at pif
it effects the quality percentage in big range,i guess i shouldnt trust quality percentages?
could you tell me pls
how can i evaluate the results?
and which speed should i choose because i have tested same media at different speeds but the results were different..
i agree with you this disc quality test isnt enough to eveluate the media, crc and rpm test are necessary for healty results. But i have problems like i list above in this disc quality test.thanks
cheers

Franky, I think your 5x and max scans are pretty well equivalent, so you may as well save time and scan @ max. I suspect that if you repeated the 5x scan, you might not see the spike. The results vary from case to case even for the same disc at the same speed. I've seen up to a factor of 5 in PI Sum 8 on my LiteOn.

I strongly recommend looking at more than the CD-Speed quality score when judging a disc.

The quality score that CD-Speed calculates is (at present) based solely on the maximum PIF value. By inspection of my own results and others posted in various boards, the score for LiteOn drives is derived from a simple polygon through the following points:
Code: Select all
PIF-Max Score
    0    100
    4     90
   10     50
   30      0

I don't know what the corresponding NEC or BenQ values are- based on the shaded tolerance zone, I'd expect the PIF-counts to be a factor 4 higher (your scores are compatible with that). Maybe a NEC or BenQ owner with extensive tests (Ian? D_R?) can comment.

I suspect that if you repeated the 5x scan, you might not see the spike.

that is true i get different peaks but there is always a peak.
I am going to search about pif and quality relationship and if i found soemthing i am going to inform you.
