Hello!

Anyone knows when a update of Qsuite is avaible? My SB-list is full and I want to erase not all learned types.

I've sent BenQ and e-mail asking about this... I'll let you know when I hear back :)

Just ordered a DW1640 on the strength of this comprehensiv review (thanks for all the hard work!), and have been looking around the forum here for recommended media.

I noticed on the BenQ UK web site a"supported media list" which I haven't seen on any other of their support sites.

http://www.benq.co.uk/ServiceAndSupport ... 750&type=B

a ver very long URL.

This is just a bare list of media types with no suggestion that they have been tested or are recommended. It is interesting thoiugh to see the relationship of 'labels' to MID numbers, but I didn't think these were permanent relationships, - don't media marketeers switch their suppliers around fairly frequently ??

A lot of brands switch their OEM partners very often... but many people who buy these drives don't know that companies like Memorex and Fuji don't make their own media (in Fuji's case they just MOSTLY don't make their own media). So BenQ has to cater to both kinds of people (people who look at MIDs and people who look at brands).

Personally, I think their list of supported media is MUCH smaller then it could be. I've had excellent results with plenty of discs not listed on there.

I hope you enjoy your new drive :D

@Scour: Still no reply on the matter. I got a quick reply only saying they were very busy and a full reply may take some time. Sorry!

After reading the excellent reviews here and over at CDFreaks, I ordered the Benq 1640 and just received it. So far so good with burning DVD-R (Sony 8x) and DVD+R (TY 8x) media.

A quick question: when the drive is not in use, is the light on the front supposed to stay on?

It'll stay green as long as there is a disc in the drive. If there is no disc in the drive, the light should go off.

I picked up this drive a week or two ago for $67 Cdn. (after taxes and shipping (combined :p )) and I really like it! It seems it'll read my Memorex DVD+R DL media at up to 12x.
I also picked up some 2+ year old 2x Princo media that was gathering dust on the shelf and threw it in - to my surprise the only speed available was 2.4x. And here are the results:

Yeah they were doing that a while ago, I found this quote:
Princo with a "TDK" media code are not made by TDK, nor are they licensed by TDK. They are forgeries. The most likely reason is that Princo wants to pass of these low quality 1x media, untested by Pioneer, as 2x in Pioneer burners.

Hello!

Is it possible to overburn DVD-R/+R with the 1640? Cdspeed says yes, but Nero 6.6 shows an error
