I was thinking the same thing.

Release Reasons:

1. Modified the writing strategy for Ricoh 2.4x DVD+R DL media.
2. Improved the writing quality for MBI 16x DVD-R & Ricoh 8x DVD+R media.
3. Supported FTI 16x DVD+R & DVD-R media.
4. Improved the reading performance for CD-R & CD-ROM discs.
5. Modified the algorithm for 16x writing speed.

And I think the question on everyone's mind is..... WHO THE HECK IS FTI???

Or at least that's what *I'M* wondering

.

FTI? I thought of Fornet International. Had never seen media from Falcon, what brand they use?

Thought the RicohjpnR02 works good on 1620, I wonder why they say that the quality is improved?

FYI MediaCodeSpeedEdit 1.0.6.2 is out and support B7W9.

>>1. Modified the writing strategy for Ricoh 2.4x DVD+R DL media.
DVD+R DL 2.4X RicohJPN D00 or D01 ?
Which one is on the market now ?

They have added RICOHJPN D01 and use the RICOHJPN D00 strategy for it. I do not know if the RICOHJPN D00 strategy was changed.

Might be a company using MCC dye. They use FTI 016@MCC 004 and FTI RG16@MCC 03RG20 strategies.

Well actually for a burner these days it is  I got one of the very first ones sold in a digital research box last year at Office Depot when they first carried them and had a sale. It was at that point a 1600 plus only unit 16x with 2.4 DL. Now it's a 1620 pro and does both plus and minus and 4x DL =D> And it still works great too.
One of the best chances I ever took on a piece of gear in a long time.

Heh, who would have guessed how much BenQ was going to throw in for free on their 1600 drives eh? :D

I have firmware B7T9 on my 1620, is it worth up dateing the firm ware to this one, and would I just use the latest firmware - ignoring the ones in between mine and the latest one B7W9
Thanks for your help
Graham

Seems that B7W9 handles Ricoh DL very well indeed \:D/

Well I upgraded to W9 and have since gone back to T9. The reason was my BenQ suddenly started to burn my Maxells really terribly and since I have 100 of them left I didn't feel like wasting them. I've used all the FWs and still find P9 and T9 to be the best overall.

which in your opinion is better? P9 or T9 ?

DVD+R 4X ? DVD-R 8X ? mediacode ? can you specify.

I have some Maxell DVD+R 4X (Maxell001) that firmwares B7V9/W9 can burn @8X pretty good. Moreover I have some Maxell DVD+R 4X YUDEN000 T01 that burn very good (better than most T02 @8X) with B7V9/B7W9.

As far as I know, there are more problems with Maxell 8X discs, not always good or/ well supported...

Can you posts some scans with P9/T9 and W9 ?

They were Maxell 8x DVD+Rs Maxell.002 made in Japan. The scans were something like 90 but had a lot of PIFs. I'll see if I can find a scan. The Maxell 4x DVD+RS (Ricohs) burn pretty nice but I stand by my statement that T9 is a better rounded FW.
