LiteOn 1693 or Benq 1640 or something else?

Hey all,

I'm looking to purchase a DVD writer (which will also function as my primary reader since I'm going to sell my reader, although I will also have access to other readers). I care primarily about burn quality.

Looking at the reviews I've concluded one of these is probably the best choice. A lot of people seem to like the Benq although there have been some poor quality burners. I live in NZ the stuff we get is often a bit old but hopefully the Benq will be problem free. Assuming it is, which one would you recommend?

BTW, the LiteOn is slightly cheaper here (about 7%)

Other suggestions are welcome, e.g. NEC 3540, LG 4167, Pioneer 110

If you think I should wait and get something else e.g. NEC 4550 then such suggestions are also welcome.

Cheers

Hello!

I vote for the 1640.

But in a few month maybe some other writers are out

BenQ DW1640, no question about it. Nothing else comes close in overall function and performance. It supports way more media then any other drive on the market (literally, there is not a single other drive that can compare in media support!!), burn speed is quite good, although LG is faster. Burn quality is VERY good, but probably Pioneer and NEC might do a bit better on a small handful of MID's (and not MUCH better). And the extra features on the BenQ DW1640 put even the PX-716A/SA to shame.

There is very rarely a time when a drive stands out so far from the rest of the competition, but this is one of those times, and the DW1640 is that drive.

Does someone really just randomly click on polls or did they just do that for fun?

I was half tempted to click that option myself.... it was asking for trouble just adding that option I think

My opinion: Benq DW 1640

Great writer, maybe the best you can get at the moment.

But I can easy recommend it because I have almost always more than one burner, when the Benq have problems with some media I can use the other one ;)

Out of the 12 DVD Burners I currently own, the DW1640 is still my favourite (and my #1 choice for MOST media burns). In all fairness, I haven't actually used my 12th DVD Burner yet though :o
