I was over at benq.com, and noticed the new dvd rewriter 1650.
How is it different than 1640.
How soon will it come out.

Thanks

Looking at the specs on BenQ's website, it doesn't look any different than the DW1640.

At one point there was some speculation that the DW1650 would have SATA, but looking at the specs, it doesn't.

The headline on the front page says "Lite On unveils.."... that should probably be fixed to avoid confusion. :)

My 1600 became a 1620, then a 1620 pro and it still burns great, maybe this is the same deal. Add the new firmware upfront and change the model number. I'd hate to rush out to buy one and find out it's just my drive with a update and new model. Of course it doesn't apear to have anything added so no use in getting one for me.

The power requirements changed from the 1640, but if it's because of a hardware change (such as a different PUH) or something else is hard to say...

Q.

Did anybody notice that the screen shot of the learned media now includes 10 peices...hmmm, hope it's a upgrade for the 1640 too.

Yes, you´re right. The question is, depends it on the FW or something else?

Hmmmm...

Sure looks like the Benq version of the new Plextor 18X burner.

see http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... highlight=

It would explain a lot - or am I (yet again) way out in left field? #-o

No, you´re wrong.

The 760 is the 18x Plextor, the 750 looks like a Benq

Here's the official word on the DW1650. It uses a different drive design than the DW1640. It actually has more in common with their upcoming LightScribe drive, the DW1655.

And more on top of that, the 1650 will be replacing the DW1640.... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though :o

Also, the DQ60 may not come to North America, since:
it only launches in seldom countries by request as DVD-RAM is not so popular in the global market so far (though there is a trend).

So I suggest not holding your breath for the DQ60 if you live in North America :o
