DMA problems in WinXP

On this system AMD300+ 1GB Ram, HDD 120GB etc, etc I had to invalidate XP failback 6 error counter under HKEY_LOCAL_Machine Bla Bla MasterIDDataChecksum and SlaveDataChechsum. reboot released PIO mode to DMA but still can't get to DMA66 for max data transfer for this Plextor 716a burner. Checked Bios and config Secondary IDE for DMA 5 or 6 . Have yet to try in Bios User defined bla bla bla. Any insite from any one. Oh board is A7V8X-X W/ Via kt400 chipset. The above item deffers with an intel chipset

what DMA mode is the drive in?
have you updated the latest VIA drivers ?

New to this Forum. Reg key is; HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\(4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)
Clicking key brings up both IDE Channels listed as-0000, 0001,0002,Properties. Also, while I was able to reset the 6 error failback by deleating MasterIDChecksum and SlaveDataChecksum under under IDE Channel 2 Master/slave and release this system from the locked PIO mode under DMA settings,was able to set DMA Mode 2. The burner supports UDMA66. So thats were I'am at. I also disconnected my zip drive from IDE 2 as slave. Bios is Award V6.0, Revision 1012 dated 7-22-04. I never did check the chipset drivers as it was a new XP Pro install, though headded that way as soon as I post this

Yes checked via driver appears to be5.04A

Of course. What I did this morning was back to Regedit and deleated MasterIDChecksum. Then to bios and rechecked all and in between trying other config, removed IDE Channel 2 each time I rebooted. Finally was able to obtain UDMA-4
