benq dw1640 burner will not stop spinning

I recently bought a BENQ DW1640 and I am using it as a reader with an NEC burner as a second drive. After copying a DVD, the BENQ keeps spinning the disc (it sounds like it is spinning very fast and the green led stays on) as long as there is a disc inside the drive. For example, I set everything up to copy a DVD and went to bed and then when I woke up, I expected the burner to be open as it normally does after burning (it was) and the BENQ to stop spinning, but the BENQ was still spinning. I have never seen another drive do this. Is this normal? If not normal, what can be done about it? It seems that the driver may not last long if a copy is started and left unattended as the driver spins continously even after it is done reading and the burner is done writing. Anyone have this happen with the BENQ DW1640???

Hello!

I think it´s not normal. My Benq slowdown the rpm after max. 30 seconds.

But it´s normal that the green LED is on when a disc is inserted.

Did you try to connect the Benq alone on the cable?

Thanks for responding. No, I did not try connecting it up alone. However, I will need to have a second drive on the cable. It is currently connected as cable select (exactly how the old primary drive was connected and there were no problems with continuous spinning). Is there diagnostic value in connecting it up alone? What do you think is the cause of the problem?

Only for testing purposes.

I never use cable-select, maybe it´s better you jumper one drive to master and other to slave and test it

benq dw1640 and DVDXPlatinum problem

Hi,

After more experimentation, I have found that the drive seems to keep spinning the disc only after using DVDXPlatinum to copy a DVD, even after the copy is complete. I have used this software before and this problem has not occured with my previous drive (Liteon). I tried the drive as the only drive on the cable and in the master mode (with the second drive in the slave position), but this did not solve the problem. It would seem that the problem may be with DVDXPlatinum, but when I hook up the old drive, it stops spinning the disc when the reading phase of the copy is complete. Any thoughts on this??? Has this happened to anyone else using DVDXPlatinum??? I like the BENQ as it is much faster than my old drive and I like using DVDXPlatinum, so I would like to try to resolve this problem without giving up either the drive or the software when making unattended copies.

Don´t know this software.

Maybe the 1640 is not full supported by this software, because it´s a new drive?

I have the same problem! I think the LED just stays lit. I used to have a ASUS CD-ROM that had the same issue.

The drive's LED will remain lit as long as there is a disc in the drive.
