Hey Ian,

I read your review on the LG GSA-4081B Super-Multi DVD±RW/RAM from 3-4-2004. You mentioned in the review that you were "able to overburn up to 94:30 with CompUSA media" using nero?
I would like to overburn a audio cd on my LG GSA-4081B, and understand it could damage my burner. I was wondering if I could get your advice on overburning a audio cd, what is the likely hood my burner will get damaged? When you said in your review, you overburned up to 94:30 I get the impression that the risk is low of damaging the burner?

I would appreciate any advice or further information you or anyone else can give on this subject.

Thanks

Manufacturers always say that and I've never heard of anyone actually damaging their drive.

How much are you trying to overburn anyway?

I want to overburn about 88 mins. using either Samsung or Jensen 80 min. CDRs.

That's not going to work. You might be able to overburn a bit to those discs, but not to 88 minutes. If you want to burn that much, pick up some 90 minute discs.

No, I used 99 minute media.

What would be the most I could overburn then with 80min. media ? and 99min. media ?

It really depends on the media. You might get a few seconds or a full minute.

With 99 minute media, you'll be able to fit about 94:30

So you can't even fit a full 99 mins. on a 99 min. disc ?

Sorry.. I didn't see this question. You are right. With this drive, you can't burn 99 min on a 99 min disc. It's one of the down sides of LG's Super Multi drives.
