Are these tests disc quality scans made on DVD-RAM ?

Could somebody tell me if these tests posted by the japanese YSS
are disc quality scans done with:
Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.10 and a LITE-ON SHM-165P6S:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/yss/ram_dqt/ram_dqt_top.htm
or if I am dreaming ?
I have always seen that this type of scans was impossible on DVD-RAM's

For example this page on DVD-RAM 5x Maxell (MID code MXL 16):
http://homepage2.nifty.com/yss/ram_dqt/ram_MXL16.htm
At the end of this webpage YSS gives even a table which seems to compare PIE and PIF errors
on a Maxell MXL16 DVD-RAM burned with different RAM burners.

Also tested:
Panasonic 5x DVD-RAM: code M01J5006
Optodisc 3x DVD-RAM: code ?

Yup, those are quality scans.... although who knows how effective the media testing ability is really (for practical purposes).

One thing I'm surprised about is how bad Optodisc's media performed. I'm sure many AREN'T surprised, but Optodisc is probably the largest manufacturer of DVD-RAM media, and actually makes DVD-RAM for Maxell (and possibly others!).

Thanks for you answer dolphin !

There are still a few questions left about these tests:

- Can these test only be done with this Lite-On SHM-165P6S drive ?
and does it need at least version 4.10 of the DVD Speed software ?

- The 3 DVD-RAM's where burnt with CD DVD Speed.
Since version 4.xx these "CDS_TEST_B2" burns are done at full 3x or 5x CLV without defect management

- What is the significance of PIE/PIF errors for a DVD-RAM ?
Especially in the other case when the DVD-RAM disc is burned with defect management on (case of drag and drop through the Explorer)

- In the 3rd test the MID code of the Optodisc 3x DVD-RAM is missing:
http://homepaget.nifty.com/yss/ram_dqt/ram_opto3x.htm.
So among DVD-RAM I find it hard to tell who is manufacturing a given MID code ...

My guess is probably not... but there aren't a lot of drives that support media testing *AND* DVD-RAM.... so there won't be a lot of options either.

I noticed that as well.

I personally have no idea..... I've never come across an unreadable DVD-RAM disc (in my VERY limited use of them).

DVD Identifier supports most DVD-RAM codes I believe... Nero CD/DVD Speed is good for regular stuff, but less good for anything rare or difficult to find. And as for who is MANUFACTURING the disc... MID code is only a rough guide. DVD-RAM is a confusing media type, which seems to be OEM'd a lot. Getting straight answers about who makes what media is VERY hard!

One thing I *DO* know, is that Optodisc makes DVD-RAM for Maxell.... but all Maxell DVD-RAM seems to say "Made in Japan" on it :o I still can't figure out how THAT one works!

I've had no problem getting MID's from Optodisc or Maxell DVD-RAM in my LG 4163B.

As for Maxell making DVD-RAM in Japan.... yeah, I'm sure they still make *SOME*... but it's not all of it.
