Benq-DVD-writers can do a burn-quality-scan (PIE, PIF and POF), look here:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/images-v ... geid=11535

He want to say that the Benq with Reatil-FW can do this tests, with Bulk-FW not

benQ has two version of fw bulk fw "G" and retail fw "B"

io magic has GCAB notice the "G" this fw seems to be just like the retail fw BCAB notice the "B" but it cant use nero speed to scan media at speeds past 0.3x on other hand the retail fw BCAB seems to scan at 8x just like the 1620 and 1640 do.

Could it be a 1640 with only a firmware update? Even on the retail box, if you read on the back in the Write Right feature, it is written 1640 (they forgot to update that paragraph from the 1640 box it seems).

So I guess the 1655 is physically identical to the 1640 but with a newer FW?

I read somewhere the 1655 may be faster when LightScribing. Anyone tested that?

I also heard LighScribe are woking to get the job done twice faster and I know this drive won't be twice faster... now I hope the new LightScribe is not just 2 months from now...

lightscribe is writen using dvd burning laser, the little extra that makes lightscribe work is a laser to read the hub ring LS index marks, so faster burning is not hardware but only media and LS driver updates as the dvd writing laser can burn at 16x as we know, but LS is speed dependent on LS label side dye and LS drivers.

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 8d335c837b

I posted very good view of index marks on hub here

If you read lightscribe.com press releases they have said faster speed and more media label colours for 2006 will work on all LS drives with just a LS update to the drivers. last LS host driver is 1.4.62.1 if anyone needs it its on nero website under nero 6 updates as i recall

Any updates on this question? What the best DVD-RW with labe

Any updates on this question? What the best DVD-RW with label burning technology? I notice ebay has the new LG DVD-RW with lightscribe. Do you think it's better than the Lite-on w/Lightscribe or the Benq w/Lightscribe?
Thanks Kirk.

Get the BenQ or the I/O magic as long as it's got the 1655 in the box.
