Getting another DVD burner ...

I may get a new PC. I already have bought the fantastic BenQ DW1640 for my current system. So, what shall I get for the new system, another BenQ or is there something better? Don't recommend too much Plextor and Pioneer as I haven't seen those two brands in any store where I live.

I would say a LG 4166, since it will give you DVD-RAM and Lightscribe support, with a good/fast 16X writing quality.

I'd wait for a few firmware updates first. It's not nearly as polished as the 4167.

LG 4166 OEM is coming around 49 euros (seems very cheap to me, when you compare to BenQ 1625 price...) and the 4167 around 39 euros in Paris "chinatown" :P

Knowing LG excellent work on the good old 4163 and several good previews (including cdrlabs ones) on 2166 and 4167, I will assume the risk is not high to have a poor 4166 (moreover if you buy only very good blank discs, as Plextor TYG02/YUDEN T02...)

By the way, what's the mid of DVD LS media ? MCC 003/004 ?

Previews? We don't do no stinking previews!

The Verbatim LS discs I have are MCC 003. I don't know who makes HP's media.

You can also consider NEC 4555 with "Label Flash" Technology or BenQ 1651 With LS. meself prefer NEC with LabelFlash if become availbe soon.

As the Plextor PX-740, the Sony DRU-810 is a rebadged BenQ 1640.

CMC just like verbatim LS disc's. ;-)
The code for the HP disc's can be MCC 003 or CMC's own 8x +R code don't know that one out of my head.

I think that CMC is the only manufacturer for all LS-DVD-media? I´m not sure about the LS-CD-Rs, maybe those media is produced by MBIL?
