Looks not good to me.

No 12x DVD-writing avaible, slow when reading, burn many 16x-media only @4x, produces coasters with MCC004, writing-quality overall not good.

Yeah, I think there's a reason why these aren't available in the US.

I think realeasing the DQ60 was a big backfire on benq's part. They tried to ride the profit wave created by the 1640.

Not really.... they only released it in certain markets officially, and only manufactured it because of huge demand from OEM orders. If they had wanted to ride the DW1640 wave, they would have mass marketed it globally, and people would have totally bought into it.

it's too bad the DQ60 (reputedly?) has worse writing quality than the 1640

Give it time. The DW1640 has been out for awhile and has gotten a ton of firmware updates. I have yet to see a firmware update for the DQ60.

well, in the meantime i'm waiting.
i'm a bit disappointed in my BenQ DW1620.

That´s it.

The 1640 have some FWs although it was not long avaible. I don´t see anything that let me think that Benq will support the DQ 60 as well as the 1640

Maybe they only release it to have a drive with DVD-RAM

Some guys think that the DQ 60 was built by Teac and is rebadged by Benq. But I think it is a Benq, who´s right?

It's possible. I think PC Watch reported that TEAC was making their own Super Multi drive. I was kinda surprised by this as TEAC doesn't have the manufacturing capacity they once did.

I believe the DQ60 is a collabrative effort between BenQ and Teac. I sure BenQ isn't OEM'ing to another manufacturer, there's no way Teac could make drives cheaper then BenQ could themselves.

And BenQ is just about ready to release a new firmware for DQ60, it's ready, and should be out any day now

Probally designed by TEAC made by Benq but I wonder how it completely has been worked out in the case of support.

Incase of Benq 1620/1640 it is designed by Philips build by Benq but both parties put support in it.

AFAIK Teac don´t manufacturer any optical drives at their own, the last real Teac was the CD-W 540, a 40x CD-RW-drive.

I think TEAC still makes some of their own slim type drives.
