The first test of the new Plextor PX-755A (firmware 1.00) has been published here
For the moment the tests made are limited and there is an update of this review to come soon

From the page "Introdution":
« The 755 uses an upgrade of the Sanyo chipset used with the 716A, the LC897496K, which according to Sanyo's official datasheet, offers DVD±R 16X, DVD ±RW 12X writing speed, DVD-ROM 16X reading speed, DVD-RAM 5X reading/writing speeds and 52/32 rec speeds for CD-R and CD-RW media respectively. As we've seen from the drives specs, the 755 does not support any DVD-RAM functions and DVD-RAM will most probably be available in th e 760 version. »

It looks like they rushed that review out to be first. It's not up to their usual standards. Oh well.. I'm sure CD Freaks will come through.

Agree

Only 16x-media tested, and no RW.

YSS has THREE PX-755A burners of TLA #0001 (so firmware 1.01)
and has started testing the Advanced AutoStrategy
on this page:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/yss/px755a/kotaisa_kaki.htm

AUTOSTRATEGY OFF / ON
with these 4 MID codes:
PRINCO: ID: PRINCO8X02
GigaStorage: ID: GSC003
Victor: ID: TYG02
Prodisc: ID: ProdiscS04

Anybody able to comment about this Advanced AutoStrategy ?

Looks like the AutoStrategy really helped with the Princo and GSC media on all three drives, but did little for TY (that's to be expected) and actually made things worse with the Prodisc on two of the drives.

The PX-716A was not recommeded for use with the Mori media, but the 755A handles it as well as a Pioneer drive. So far it's looking like a good burner; lets hope there isn't as much variability between individual drives as the 716A.

About time. That's what they should have done originally instead of rushing out that preview.

Yeah, that´s what you said after their half-review :)

When a Plextor is out, some guys want to be the first :)

Nope

Only when a Plextor or a drive with new features arrives, like with LS/LF

I remember in the past previews of a NEC and Liteon, but last time I only saw full reviews at Cdrinfo.

Similar with Cdfreaks, but Cdfreaks need sometimes a very long time to offer a review because especially with Liteon-drives (you know, Cdfreaks was in the CD-burner-time a community of Liteon-fans ;) ), because they talk with Liteon and often wait for more than one FW-update before they finish the review.

At least they took a look at some of the drive's advanced features.

At least they have a drive. Plextor America is taking their sweet time to bring the 750A and 755A over here.

Yep, I think that is exactly what they're doing. They were the first to get the PX-716 and they got burned big time. Now they're letting initial shipments of the 750A and 755A go to Europe and Japan.

I find it funny that Plextor USA won't even discuss them.
Like they are some magical rumored devices that might not exist. Even though they are already widely available in Europe...

The funny thing is that the drive is now a lot better than that company's attitude towards users of alternative OSes...

I think a lot of this is due to Howard Wing leaving the company. He's been their VP of sales and marketing for as long as I can remember and has done a hell of a job.
