i just got different brands of dvd blank media. all 4.7gb capacity. R+ R- ones.

then i used the Qsuite to detect the actual size of the disk, it onyl detected 4.4** something or 4.4gb+. is this correct? i tried on all the dvds(different brands and speed), its all the same. so it really doesnt reach 4.7gb at all?

BeAll has some extra capacity DVD-Rs... I think they have 4.5 or 4.6 Gigabytes of storage.

Have a look here: Capacities of DVD The entire FAQ at DVD Demystified offers a wealth of information and is well worth looking at.

One complication that you've run into is the use of decimal multipliers for binary units. Unforunately it's customary in much of the computer world to call 2^30 Bytes a "Gigabyte". The term Giga really means 10^9 (1,000,000,000) and 2^30 is 1,073,741,824. As a result, the 4.7 GB (decimal) are often shown as 4.37 GiB (binary, normally without the i in the units). The best resolution to this mess is the use of separate binary prefixes as set down by the IEC (see this contribution at the NIST).

umm. so how do i fix this, so that nero can properly detect the actual capacity? also the overburn option can only support up to 4600, can i write 4612 for example on the media? will that work?

suggestion needed, which is better to use on my part. i need to back up a lot .avi files. which disk is better -r or +r? price is -r = (11+), +r = (20+). whats the major difference between the two?
