Hi ,
Could anybody help please. I am thinking of purchasing the above
burner, at the moment it is only available in the oem version (bulk)
Here in the UK.
In the states i see it is available in the retail version.
Looking at a picture of it , it has a green trim on the front plus
a large button, would this be the same design for both versions
or will the OEM version differ. I do very much like the design of
the retail version.
Many thanks,
Dell.

Only the retail version of the drive has the fancy bezel. The OEM version looks like BenQ's previous OEM drives.

Finally I got a 1655 and I managed to get a discount showing another store on internet selling it for less.
On the box, the design is the old, in the box, the design is also the old one so both are the same here in Canada.
I don't know where they will be selling the one with the green line.

Probably Japan.... those green lines are expensive, and prices in Japan are much higher

Damn, I'm gonna be pissed if I can't get one with the fancy bezel here in the US.
DeltaLima, what store did you buy yours at?

Same here
I gave up looking for the pretty 1655 after spending about three hours on various web sites, including google.
I picked up a second 1655 at Staples today and the $10 off coupon "66683" still works. I think Staples screwed up by allowing the web coupon to work in-store.
In the for what it's worth department- I tried two Staples today and both stores had just received new computer related stock. Maybe Wednesday is restock day for all the Staples stores??? Hox might know..

Damn, looks like I'll need to go back in with the coupon code and get a extra 10 bucks off. Drive seems nice so far, can hardly wait for first new firmware update so I can flash to retail and see if quality gets even better. The New Egg picture looks like OEM too except for the skinny rectangular button.

How do you get it to work in store? Just tell them to punch it in?

Yup, just punch it in. To the best of my knowledge all Staples coupon/discount codes can be entered manually.
