In an attempt to keep the forum from being flooded with CES posts, please keep all discussion here. Feel free to post CES coverage from other websites (especially booth babes!).

Here's some info from Bill Gates' keynote address at CES, mostly revolving around HDDVD and the XBox 360 (and the XBox 360's external HDDVD player!):

Nice.. it looks like Sony has a few PC based Blu-ray drives on the way. Taken from:

I wonder who the manufacturer is. Sony? BenQ?

Isn't that all Sony's current DVD writers are?

Seems like it'd make sense for Sony to be making their own drives right now. It's at the highest point of a profit margin, plus a lot of the normal OEMs wouldn't be quite set up to build drives.

It'll probably be like the DVD burner market-- Sony will make the first 1-3 generations themselves then quietly outsource....

Lot's of pretty pictures!! But it looks like a lot of the companies don't want to share much info with us on the new toys yet.

One thing I noticed was the huge price difference between NEC's HDDVD-ROM and the BD-ROMs from other companies... but this might be because we haven't seen pricing from LG or BenQ yet on their BD-ROM drives.

Still.... I'm half tempted to start pileing cash away now for a pre-order of some BluRay goodness :D

Yeah... I'm looking forward to hearing what the plans are for the DW1670... I hope it isn't an 18x DVD±R burner like Plextor attempted

Imagine a DW1650 but with 5x DVD-RAM and 6x DVD-R DL writing speeds. That's the DW1670.

ExtremeMhz has their coverage online. Unlike most places, they actually look at some storage products.
